War of words over biotechnology wears on
Croatia considers GMO ban

November 26, 2001 -- Croatia is heading toward a ban on the importation, marketing, use and production of the products of agricultural biotechnology, according to the U.S. Foreign Agricultural Service. If passed by the
Croatian Parliament, a draft bill dated September/October 2001 would impose such ban until biotechnology is regulated by more specific legislation. The Croatian government also conducted an
anti-GMO campaign this summer promoting Croatia as a GMO-free tourist destination.
