War of words over biotechnology wears on
Mugabe reverses stand on GM food

September 6, 2002 -- Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has reversed his stand on genetically
modified grains
and decided to acccept 55,000 metric tons of emergency food aid, James
Morris, executive
director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), told href="http://www.reliefweb.int/w/rwb.nsf/UNID/AD136162AC7C03D885256C2B006A5558?OpenDocument">Agence
France Presse.

Zimbabwe, along with Zambia and Mozambique, had refused to import
genetically modified grains, even though they are among the southern
African nations
hit by devastating food shartages that have left 13 million people in
six nations
threatened by starvation in the coming months.
