Even a window garden can be a DIY project, or many lower cost window frames can be bought that hang on outside of a southern exposed window in shortest time investment. You may want to start simple and move up, as this winter gardening gets into your soul pretty fast. Zones vary on the amount and intensity of suna nd heat you can expect, so get a good understanding of your local sun therms avalable. Keep in mind even with a small supplemental heat source you can grow well into deep winter, even in northern climates. Some report less than $100 extra cost for whole season can give your indoor gardens a real boost to optimum growing temps. Inspiration and perspiration are good substitutes for money, and your own source of herbs and vegetables 10 months ouf of the year is a worthy goal for any home gardener. Once you dig into the subject and try a few things you'll find opportunity spots and even toss-away materials, soon fashioned into ideal winter gardens.
