Some facts about amaryllis

Did you know:

that amaryllis is a plant from the Andes Mountains of Chile and Peru?

the plant was denoted a country girl or a shepherdess? She was the pastoral sweetheart sung by Theocritus, the Greek poet of the 3rd century B.C.

the word was derived from Greek "amarysso" which means to sparkle or twinkle the bulb is poisonous? So be sure to keep your children, cats and dogs away from them.

that not all amaryllis flowers bloom at the same time? Some flower early while others flower in January and february. are also called Hippeastrum? Superior varieties that have been propagated vegetatively are sold by name such as "Appleblossom" (blush pink), "Beautiful Lady" (salmon orange), "Fire Dance" (bright red), "Scarlet Admiral" (deep scarlet), and "White Giant" (snowy white).
